Sansui Au 9900 Vs 717, Firstly, besides the extra power and a few added features, does either the 517 or 717 add any significant sound upgrade? And could anyone give me their opinion on the sound differences between the 517, the 717, and the earlier model 9500? I currently I think my AU-717 has it (just) from a listening enjoyment point of view - but it is very very close - and I have not fully refurbished the AU-9900 yet. One thing that should be pointed out: the AU-517 and AU-717 share the same service manual, as well as the brochure (AU-717/AU-517/TU-717), thus, it indicates they are similar in design. The 717 is easier to tune and still gives great sound which, by recollection and without an A/B comparison, is as good as the 919. After about $400 of repair work, the 9090dB can be made reliable but it still has an inferior tuner, amp and preamp to the G-8000 and doesn't sound as good as the G-8000 or AU-717, IMO. The 9900 is part of Sansui's 'Definitive' series. The tuner is first rate. The TU-X1 contains separate FM and AM tuners with separate tuning knobs and meters, and sounds fantastic. . May be the recapped sansui au 7900 needs more time to run in.
